Storing Up Treasures in Heaven

608Spadina“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where theives break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves terasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where theives do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  Matthew 6:19-21

The mission house at 608 Spadina Avenue sold this fall as a strategic decision to invest in kingdom partnerships.  The need is so great  in the City of Toronto and while Toronto City Mission has a presence in 5 of the 13 at-risk communities in the city, we realize that in order to help meet the needs of those living in poverty, we need to take action.

“608” has a rich history.  The building was purchased in 1930 at which point it became the administrative office and home of the mission superintendent .  Miss Ivy Bundt lived in the mission house with two other ladies and served as Superintendent from 1947-1979.  Over the years the house has also been used to house a food bank, to gather and distribute Christmas assistance to families in need, and to house interns and missionaries.

On December 22, 2009, former and current directors, staff and board members gathered to say farewell to 608.  We shared stories about the past abd reminisced with past director Captain Don Paterson (ED from 1980-1993).  Also present at the event was Ken Little (ED from 1995-2005).

We leave with fond memories of the ministry that occurred at 608 and we look forward to a future of deeper partnerships and renewed vision.
