Light in Darkness

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

Have you ever walked in a place where there was absolutely no light, complete darkness? Most of the time a situation like that makes us uncomfortable because we can't see with our eyes and the surroundings become the unknown. Even if the room was full of objects or people, we might still feel as if we were alone.

But what happens when there's even a little bit of light? A source of light as small as a tiny match can illuminate a room that is overpowered by darkness.

The Bible has a lot to say about light and darkness.

"This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." - John 3:19-21

In many ways, our world is as dark as a room with absolutely no light. It can leave us feeling lost, confused, and unsure of our surroundings. But just as our world resembles a dark room, so do Jesus' words resemble a little match struck in the darkness. The light may be small, and we still may stumble in the darkness, but if we let it, that tiny light can illuminate even the darkest corners in the world. So take a moment and ask yourself, do you have the light of Christ guiding you in your life?
