Volunteer Series: Willowtree
Interview by Jeff Barker (Outreach Worker at Willowtree) with placement student Rebecca Parsaud
Q: How did you hear about TCM and what program/site are you involved in?
A: I heard about Toronto City Mission, from my field placement co-ordinator. This was one of the choices on the placement choice sheet. The programs that I am involved in are; Role Models Mom in the Jane-Finch Community, KIC (Kids In Community) in Willowtree and in Steeles-L’Amoreaux, EPIC Tutoring in Willowtree and Steeles-L’Amoreaux.
Q: What has been the highlight of your time with TCM so far?
A: I think some of my highlights so far at Toronto City Mission would be getting to know more about the kids and the moms that I am working with. If I could chose one highlight it would have to be cupcake decorating with the kids (at Willowtree). It was an amazing time and some kids really shined and showed there creative side. It was fun and [will be a] memory that I will always have.
Q: What would you like people to know about TCM?
A: One thing I would like people to know about Toronto City Mission is that it is a place where everyone can have fun, make new friends. The environment is welcoming and everyone is nice and very helpful. It is honestly a rewarding experience.
