Exodus

Our Western society is regularly considered to be the “dream” when it comes to living in this world. Words like “freedom” and “opportunity” often come to mind which is why somewhere like Toronto becomes as diverse as it is today. Every day, people from around the world choose to uproot their lives from their native land for a chance at finding another place to discover true happiness or success.

The people of Israel were not as fortunate as us. They lived in a reality where they had no choices, couldn’t speak up, and were treated so poorly for hundreds of years. And of course, when they had the most spectacular and unbelievable rescue mission executed by God Himself, they grumbled and missed their miserable life back with the Egyptians and quickly forgot about the land promised to them by God (Exodus 16).

I am a follower of Christ, the One who promises me a life full of joy, love, and peace. He offers the best possible things, and all I need to do is follow him. This is the world I was born into, but not the one I’m meant to stay in. But like the Israelites, I find myself forgetting the true goodness that I’ve been promised. May we, as a people who claim to love God, remember our true home and work hard towards our journeys there, inviting as many as we can to this place!
