The Come Up

Written By: Jemuel Chavez, Summer Intern

The past three weeks of training and planning for camp is already done and now we are waiting for the six weeks of camps to come. The easy part is done, but now it’s time for us to execute all those plans. I've had the joy to be able to have the opportunity to get to know the other interns from all of the four different sites. From meeting at Birchmount, to meeting at Vendome (where camp is hosted at) , to early morning lesson planning at Mc Donalds and late afternoons of shopping; we have tried to prepare ourselves as much as we can.

So far, training and planned seemed to be very relaxed but as the camp dates starts to creep in, the more I realized that there will be no more time for relaxing. The more i think about when camp starts, the more anxious I get. I continue to question my abilities and what will happen. Are my lessons enough? Will the kids listen? What if I mess up?

The more I think about it, the quickly I'm reminded that God will take care of everything. As long as we have a willing heart and attitude towards the community we will be serving. God will use us in what way He sees best. It is not what can God do for me, but rather what can I do for God? When we have this teachable and joyful spirit towards serving the communities we are placed in, God will use us to touch the hearts of the kids, the families and the community.

The results of the summer may seem uncertain but if we have the willing heart with a joyful spirit that we are here to serve these communities for the glory of God. There will be a change in the kids, families and community.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.

6 weeks to go. We are on the come up.
