Ministry in the Midst of Mayhem

Although TCM’s on-site programs have been suspended indefinitely, ministry to communities impacted by poverty continues. In the midst of the pandemic the Outreach Workers and volunteers, who would typically run after school programs in-person, have been engaging with the children, youth and families in creative ways.

One opportunity there has been to interact with the youths, is by playing online games (such as Skribbl). We also make time for devotions either before or after the games.

Another way we have been keeping in touch online is by hosting an Easter gathering online for the families in Kingston-Galloway. Through this event, four families came together with staff and volunteers to make arts and crafts (craft supplies were supplied earlier in a care package that was delivered to families), hear the resurrection story, do a fun quiz and start a memory verse challenge. The best part was seeing the children excited to not only see their leaders but to see each other after being away from one another for a while now. .  Prior to the gathering there was some doubt as to whether or not families would participate, but God is faithful and He made it a fruitful time. The staff will be holding these online gatherings once a week for the families.

God has also opened doors for us to show His love by serving in small, but meaningful ways. Some things we’ve been doing to help communities include cleaning and sanitizing the church/food bank where we hold programs and serve families, handing out care packages to the kids and youth, delivering meals to families’ homes.  Keeping in touch with parents over phone and email, and sending links to online resources regarding the pandemic.

With this whole situation, kids are now facing education through e-learning. This means students require certain technology to keep up with their studies. This presented a great challenge as many of the families we serve do not have access to a computer or laptop. However, through generous supporters and partners 17 students have been provided with laptops. What a blessing it is to see how God provides through His people. Let us continue to serve and bless others in this difficult time
