TCM Tidbit #1

In 1879, a number of ministers and others, representing the various evangelical denominations, felt that a united effort should be made to carry the Gospel into the more needy districts of the city of Toronto, especially to those who were not being reached by the ordinary church services.  After several conferences, it was unanimously decided to organize this mission as an auxiliary to the Christian churches in the spread of the Gospel.

When created, the objective of the Mission was to carry the Gospel everywhere throughout the city, especially among the careless, poor and destitute – in their homes, in prisons, hospitals and elsewhere, by the employment of Missionaries and other helpers, by personal visitation, by indoor and outdoor meetings, and by the diffusion of the Word of God, of sound evangelical literature, and by other suitable ways of reaching the people.
