TCM Devotions: How do we Find Courage?
Verse: 2 Timothy 1:7
“For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
Devotion:
There are many things to be fearful of in this world. There are real and present dangers living in a city. There are many dangers to our physical well-being when we choose to live and work here. Will I be safe? What decisions can I make that will ensure my physical safety. I believe there are certain things under our own control to prevent ‘bad things’ from happening, however, there is a whole issue of emotional, spiritual and even our future safety. What if I do the wrong thing? What if I end up hurting myself or someone I care about or who I work with? What if?
This is fear. This is the stuff that is not what God has given us. When we choose to act out of love, but with the use of a sound mind that seeks accountability and peace from the Word of God, we choose not to act out of fear. We choose not to make a decision because we are SCARED of what will happen. I love that our God is fearless, and draws us into challenging situations where we need to trust in Him and we need to act in love in response.
Thought:
What decision are you playing with right now? Think about your motivation. Are you ‘scared’ of the unknown or will you choose to act in love, in power, and with your sound mind?
