Witnessing God at Work
Reflections from Marvin, a Volunteer in Kingston-Galloway
I enjoy spending time with the kids and the community! I have been blessed to witness them grow in faith and in life. There were many things that I could learn from working with the kids and the community.
I started volunteering with TCM when my church partnered up with TCM to celebrate the Gift of Christmas. I came without any expectations, but I knew that God was working through this organization. I saw how TCM allows the kids to have fun/play games with other kids in the community, learn about Christ, and be taken care of by the Outreach Workers and volunteers, I wanted in! After only a few months, I had witnessed God's work through TCM in many ways! The relationships that are being created in the community with the staff and volunteers is incredible. I see that TCM has provided the kids with such a loving environment from just noticing the kids smiling cheek to cheek as they enter the building and greet the workers and volunteers. Knowing that there are people that care and love them has made the kids more open to learn about Christ and the gospel.
TCM has impacted my life because it has given me joy, energy, and purpose. Working with the kids in the community has taught me valuable lessons! I remember a time when we were doing arts and crafts, and one of the kids had finished the activity. He packed his stuff, got up, and was ready to go home. But he saw one of his friends was having a hard time completing the activity. Instead of going home, he helped his friend so they can both leave together. Seeing this has made me reflect on my behaviour at work, where I would just leave my co-workers behind if I finish early. Since then, I always help my co-workers finish up their tasks, whenever I finish earlier than others. My relationship with my co-workers has since improved!
My hope for the kids and the community is that they continue to build a relationship with God: to trust in Him, to rely on Him in everything they do, to enjoy every moment with Him, to know that He is sovereign, and to find love, peace, joy, hope, and laughter in Him!
