Everyone Needs Compassion

If this summer has taught me anything, it’s that God’s compassion is overflowing. It’s a simple fact, but an easy one to forget. While preparing my lesson on Jonah and the Big Fish, I found myself challenged by this idea. While the story is a great reminder of God’s compassion, it’s also a reminder of the selfishness and anger of man.

Unity in God's People

Near the start of Sonshine Day Camp, one of my fellow interns gave a devotional about unity of the body of Christ. We read through a passage in 1 Corinthians 12, highlighting how important it was for us as a team to work together to share the Gospel and love the children.

Picking Up the Pieces - In Unity

This is my first year as an intern at Sonshine Day camp. I did not really know what to expect as I had heard that I will be stretched in my time in Kingston-Galloway. So before I had even begun I had decided early on to go in with full confidence and faith in God.

Our God Is Intentional

If I have learned anything from working with Toronto City Mission, it has been the importance of being intentional. During training we were taught that to get to know the kids at Kingston-Galloway, we would need to intentionally plan, pray, and put into practice the kinds of characteristics and attributes God commands us to display in His word.

Everything is God’s Work

I felt confident applying for the Toronto City Mission (TCM) Summer Internship because I believed I could do well in it. When I first heard about TCM and read the job description, I thought it was a perfect fit for me due to my experience working with children. However, during the internship training, I realized my initial confidence was just arrogance.

A Season of Discernment

God is faithful. This is exactly how I would describe my experience at Toronto City Mission’s Sonshine Day Camp. As the second half of camp commences, I have felt so much joy in serving the Kingston-Galloway community over the last seven months.

Michelle, God and TCM

I’m always surprised at how God is working in my life. I heard about this opportunity in passing last year, and by God's grace I ended up here this summer. I'm grateful for always viewing ministry as uplifting and purposeful.

A Loving God

It has been a whirlwind of a summer at Flemingdon Park. This summer has indeed been a huge learning experience for me. Coming into this, I was actually pretty scared to connect with the kids and figure out how to do ministry but God has shown me that a little bit of love can go a long way.

Heart Wide Open

It has been a blessing serving as a summer intern at TCM this summer at the Kingston-Galloway location. This is my second year serving as a summer camp counsellor at TCM. I decided to return for a second year because I had so much fun interacting with the campers, and interns during my first year.

Loving the Littles

I decided to return for the second time as a Summer Intern at Sonshine Day Camp, because of the relationships that I built in Flemingdon Park with the older bunch of students in my small group. Throughout last summer, I shared my love for worship music with them and had intentional conversations with them about the Gospel, and the lessons that we taught.

My Summer at Flemingdon Park

I returned for a second year because I felt like my work at Flemingdon Park was not finished. I really connected with all of the children last year, connected with the community and was able to share the gospel with them. I also feel that by doing that I helped open their capacity for God’s love.

Expect the Unexpected

Toronto City Mission has helped me find my passion for being in the children's ministry, which led me to pursue a profession in teaching. I want to be able to guide young minds and encourage them in their walk with God while simultaneously strengthening mine.

A Season of Growth and Blessings

Going into this time of camp truly feels different going into it a second time as I can focus less on the planning aspects of the internship and focus on building connections with the kids, while also building habits and working on useful skills for myself.

What a Friend We Have in Jesus

There are many different names and titles that are attributed to Jesus: King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Alpha and Omega, the Son of God, the Good Shepherd, etc. But over these past three months serving as an intern with TCM, I have been reflecting on how Jesus is our Friend, and what that means in the lives of the children who attend our program and in my personal life.

Learning to Love Like Christ

To be perfectly honest, if I knew just how mentally tiring this summer’s work would be in addition to the physical tax associated with running around with young children everyday, I might have had a little bit more hesitation in responding to God’s call to serve the community in Flemingdon Park this summer.

Transformed by God’s Love

I have the joy of being a part of Toronto City Mission’s (TCM) internship for a third summer overall and I can confidently say that it is both God and my community that have encouraged me to once again see how God transforms His people to allow them to feel loved and accepted.

A Child Like Faith

Everyday I see at least one thing that shows me God is at work. Not only have I been getting closer to God this summer spiritually, I also feel as if my capacity for love has grown exponentially on a daily basis during camp. My faith has grown a lot during this internship.
