New Years Greetings!

By: Elliott Shin | Executive Director

For most of us, the Covid-19 pandemic was the overwhelming event of 2020. Although the shifting of the calendar year does little to change daily COVID numbers, we at Toronto City Mission wanted to remind you that God’s promises are still relevant for us. In these difficult times, feelings of isolation, loneliness, and despair can easily creep in. As such it is imperative that we remind each other that we are welded together by Christ’s love, and His love knows no boundaries.

As we begin 2021, let us make every effort to share with those around us personal messages of hope and faith that we experience each day. We are in this together.

Scripture teaches us “ Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

What a valuable lesson Paul teaches us. This coming year we need to fix our eyes on eternal truths which can be experienced but not seen, rather than temporary setbacks and momentary difficulties that mark our lives. This very attitude enabled Paul to minster with optimism.

So as we embark on 2021, our hope and desire is that together we live a life worthy of our faith. That we place our faith in Christ, and recognize that these temporary hardships are preparing us for an eternal glory that is beyond comparison. We are determined to look to Christ and not the things of this world.

On behalf of the staff at Toronto City Mission, we wish you and yours a safe, fruitful, and joyful new year!

May we continue to fix our eyes on Christ!

Happy New Year!
