In God We Trust

Reflections by: Andrew Chan | Summer Camp Intern, Kingston-Galloway

Working as a Summer Camp Intern at Toronto City Mission (TCM) has been a blessing this summer! I have been able to create many great relationships with the campers as well as with my fellow interns. I am also grateful for the immense support of prayer and fundraising I have received from friends and family throughout this summer!

It has been very fun interacting with the kids and watching them want to participate in the activities we planned for them! All of the campers go to the swimming pool every Wednesday as part of our camp schedule and many of the kids always want to complete the deep end test in order to swim in the deep end of the pool. I remember one camper who didn’t know how to swim and how he kept on trying the test until he finally passed it. All of the other campers were cheering him on and congratulated him on his success! This is one of my favourite memories from camp.

It has been really encouraging watching the kids learn more about God through our Bible lessons and them asking questions about the Bible!

During the summer, I have learned to be more patient through tough days at camp and learned to adapt to unexpected situations. It has been really encouraging watching the kids learn more about God through our Bible lessons and them asking questions about the Bible! Every camper is at a different place in life and I learned that it is important to love them where they are at. We have been teaching the campers about the life of David and it has been a great reminder for me that through every trial and success, I should always put my trust in God and continue to rely on Him for strength. I need to rely on God for patience and always remember that God is always looking for my best interests even when I am uncertain about the future.

Being a summer camp intern at TCM has been a life-changing experience serving the campers as well as working with amazing staff!
