The Reunion of God's People
The Collins English dictionary defines a reunion as an event attended by members of the same family, school, or other group who have not seen each other for some time.
It is always exciting to see friends from the past. It is a time to catch up, share old stories, and it is also a time to be in the midst of folks who have shared a common experience.
TCM will be holding two such events in November.
On Tuesday November 12, we would like for you and all supporters to join us at TCM’s AGM. This will be an opportunity to give thanks to God for what He has done in the past year and to share with all of you about the hopes and dreams that God has placed on our hearts moving forward. For details and to RSVP, please visit our website.
Further on Saturday November 30th, Toronto City Mission will be hosting an intern reunion. We will be bringing back interns and staff from the past 20 years. As in all good occasions, we will be sharing good food and refreshments over lunch, catching up with each other, sharing wonderful day camp and school year memories, and of course celebrating our shared affection and love for the ministry of Toronto City Mission. There will be an open mic time for individuals to communicate a meaningful story or for people to bear witness of things God has taught them through their time with us. If you are a past intern or staff and have not yet RSVP’d for the reunion event yet, we encourage you to do so here.
Why are we meeting you may ask? Well Hebrews 10:24-25 enlighten us with these words,
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
We are meeting to stir each other up in love. The two great commandments are to love God and to love others. Similarly, to the challenges and hardships that the Hebrews were going through, a genuine loving Christian community can help us avoid the dangers of overlooking God and others in the midst of our own uncertainties. So we meet to remind each other to love God and to love those around us.
Secondly, we are meeting to stir each other up to good works. We are able to demonstrate the genuineness of our love for God and for others through our good works. We meet to inspire others to do good works, as well as to hear stories of good works from our fellow brothers and sisters.
We are also meeting to encourage one another. It is always delightful to receive encouragement from others, and it is also wonderful to be able to encourage others in their Christian journey. As we endeavor to live out our faith, we are commanded to be salt and light to those around us. As we join together in celebratory reunion, let us be motivated to encourage and spur one another toward love and good deeds.
Will you join us in praying that many friends of TCM would be able to attend these events to not only celebrate the ministry of Toronto City Mission, but this may also be a time where God is worshiped and glorified.
