The Intimate Love of the Father

Reflections By: Rachel Shin | Summer Office Intern, 2022

When I look back on my time at my summer office internship with Toronto City Mission (TCM), I am blown away by how God moves – so surely and so steadfastly. I am reminded of God’s sovereignty over our lives and everything that happens in this world. Although for two years during the pandemic, COVID-19 has prevented Sonshine Day Camp from happening in-person, I see that in God’s perfect timing and perfect way, He has prepared a team of faithful interns, reopened the doors of camp in three different communities, and has called each camper & family to Himself this summer.

Through my time at TCM, God has shown me how vast He is, how broad the scope of His work and yet how intimately He knows each and every child of His.

it was truly awe-inspiring to know that the Spirit of God had no bounds.

First, as I hopped from site to site, meeting and interacting with children from each community to gather footage, I was in awe of how God has set up three different teams to run Sonshine Day Camp simultaneously across the city. I was able to see a glimpse of God’s omnipresence in action. Even though I could be present in only one place, at one time, and all we (the interns) could do was be faithful in our respective roles – whether at camp or in the office – it was truly awe-inspiring to know that the Spirit of God had no bounds. Kingdom-work was happening in three different communities across the city, at the same time, and it reflected how much broader God’s line of sight was.

Second, a large part of my work was interviewing individuals for a special video series. Through this work, I was able to meet children and youth from different sites, get to know their stories and learn more about who they were. Interviews consisted of several “fun” questions catered towards children such as, “Your favourite food” or “Your favourite TV show” or “If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would you go?”. The joy of simply listening to children as they shared these details about themselves was… too cute to put into words. I can only imagine how intimately God knows each of us, and the answers to questions such as, “The first thing you do when you wake up…”. I imagine the unsurmountable joy of our own Creator and Father, as He walks with us through every intricate experience in our own lives.

The invitation to witness these wonderful happenings at TCM as a summer office intern was truly a gift, and I am certain God will continue to move in mysterious and steadfast ways in His communities.
