All Those Who Are Weary

Matthew 11:28-29

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “

Devotional

Throughout this lockdown, I am constantly feeling anxious. Things can pop up anywhere at any time. Nothing is in my control and that makes me anxious. When I’m anxious, I get worried. When I worry, I start asking questions and the questions that I think to myself are:

Are my friends, family, people I care about safe?
When will this all be over? Will it ever be over?
Will the people that have lost their jobs be alright?
What’s going to happen when the lockdown ends?

When we wander aimlessly in our minds, it’s easy to lose ourselves in our thoughts. It makes it harder to stay positive. It makes it harder to stay focused on things like homework, or work, or things you have to do (like chores!). Some days, you might feel tired, worried, and discouraged because you want everything to be normal again, but it’s not happening.

This verse reminded me to stop. Just stop and rest in God. Bring to Him all of my worries, questions, and doubts by praying, trusting that He is working all things out. I feel safe and comforted knowing that He is gentle at heart and encouraged that He will provide everything that I need to get through the day.

Reflection

How have you been feeling this week?
Are you feeling sad, upset, tired, angry, stressed?
Has staying inside made you frustrated?

Homework, naps, video games, social media, can only help us pass the time, but it won’t fix our worries. Only God can provide rest, peace, and comfort that is long lasting. If you have been feeling tired, worried, worn out, or exhausted, just like I have, I encourage you to take a break and really spend some time with God in prayer or reading the Bible, for you will find true rest — rest for your soul.
