Fear Not
Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Devotional
It’s a common theme in the Bible to see the Lord telling His people to do something almost outrageous. But then it’s always coupled with a promise: In this kind of crazy command, God tells them not to fear because He is there with them the entire way through. And this isn’t something that happens just in the Bible -- this is still our life as well! It’s not a completely easy task to love the Lord with all of our heart, mind, strength, and soul, or to obey the commands He has for us. But we are called -- God tells us! -- to step out in faith; to step out of our comfort zones and to live an uncomfortable life for the sake of the Gospel. And the promise He gave to Joshua and so many others before us, the Lord promises us the very same thing: He will be with us wherever we go. We can be confident in our discomfort knowing God is by our side. He is on this journey with us! He is ready to catch us if we ever fall. When we step out of our comfort, that’s when we can see the most of God’s faithfulness because we can witness every time that He is holding onto His promise; that He is truly with us wherever we go! Seeing God’s faithfulness is surely a more amazing thing to witness than to live comfortably every day!
Fun fact! In the Bible, the Lord tells us not to fear a total of 365 times! That’s the same amount of days in a year. The Lord offers us His courage and strength for each and every day, every year!
Reflection
Is there something you’re afraid of? Take time to ask God to help you trust Him and to give you courage!
Is there something you think God is wanting to tell you? Sit quietly and ask God to help you open your ears and your heart to hear what He may want to say.
