Philippians 1:9-10

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.

Devotional

This world carries a lot of pain, and recently that pain has been surfacing more and more. As humans, it is so natural to feel emotions; to feel joy, sadness, anger, excitement, frustration, despair. These emotions are so important to recognize and express, but when they become in control of us in what we do and say, they start holding power over us that can easily lead to destruction. In the many ways we are hurting and feel as though this world is unfair, let us bring those thoughts to God. Let Him hear these true emotions we are feeling. It’s in prayer where we can express ourselves in the most truthfulness and honesty we possibly can, and where God can help us understand and make sense of some things. He can help us to grow a bigger heart and more love for His people on this earth. And it’s through this love that lets us start truly loving and helping each other on this earth, too.

Prayer

Father, thank You for making us a people who feel emotions. Thank You for making us passionate. May You help us practice to be in more control over these emotions, and not let them easily control us in impulse, anger, or resentment. Help our hearts grow in love so that we may show others how to love as well. Amen.

Reflection

How are you feeling, truly? Is there something good that happened to you this week? Give God thanks for it. Are you also feeling anything from the recent occurrences? Anger, distrust, resentment, even hatred? Tell God honestly, He wants to hear you.
