My Journey to Toronto City Mission

Hi, I’m Lukas, a 19-year-old from Germany. My journey to Toronto City Mission (TCM) started when I joined Liebenzell Mission, a mission organization in Germany, that connects volunteers with service opportunities abroad. The idea of working in a Christian organization that serves children and families affected by poverty in Toronto inspired me deeply. I wanted to be part of something meaningful while growing in my faith and character. When I first arrived, I was both excited and nervous about what lay ahead. It was my first time being so far away from my family, which felt daunting, but I knew this was a unique opportunity to trust God and His plan for me.

Before I started at TCM, I honestly thought it would be much harder. My only experience working with kids was a one-week internship in a kindergarten back home. I expected the workload to be overwhelming and imagined struggling to keep up. To my surprise, the work-life balance was much better than I anticipated, and the TCM team provided a lot of support.

However, of course, there were still obstacles. One of the biggest challenges was preparing Bible lessons and activities. I wanted to make sure they were meaningful and engaging for the children. I took time to learn how to craft lessons and lead activities that resonated with them. Another challenge was being away from my family. Although it was hard at times, God gave me the strength to face each challenge. His guidance helped me handle difficult circumstances better than I expected and pushed me to lean on my faith in Him and trust His process.

Through my time at TCM, I’ve grown in both faith and leadership. I’ve learned to be more humble, trusting God in all things, and appreciating the little moments that make a big difference. This experience has taught me patience, teamwork, and how to care for others in practical ways. It’s been a blessing to serve with TCM, and I’m thankful for everything I’ve learned here. I’ll carry these lessons with me as I continue to grow in faith and serve others.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
