After completing my first full year of KIC, EPIC, and Sonshine Day Camp, I look back with overflowing gratitude. Before onboarding the TCM team, I wasn’t sure how everything would pan out. Jesse Ketchum was a new site, I was a new staff member, I would be working with an entirely new team, and doing my first ministry job. However, in all of this, I have seen how God works in the journey.
Read MoreSince 1879, Toronto City Mission has held the blessing of participating in God’s good work in Toronto. Their vision, rooted in the hope of seeing families' lives transformed by the truth of the Gospel, inspired and encouraged me, showing me there was an organization in my own city that shared the same missional heart I felt God had planted in me. In 2019, God gave me the opportunity to join along into this blessing TCM held as well.
Read MoreDuring these past few weeks God has been working in mysterious ways, seeing how these children grow and change in such a short time. Children often fight and it's difficult because they generally haven’t learned how to handle it at times.
Read MoreIf this summer has taught me anything, it’s that God’s compassion is overflowing. It’s a simple fact, but an easy one to forget. While preparing my lesson on Jonah and the Big Fish, I found myself challenged by this idea. While the story is a great reminder of God’s compassion, it’s also a reminder of the selfishness and anger of man.
Read MoreNear the start of Sonshine Day Camp, one of my fellow interns gave a devotional about unity of the body of Christ. We read through a passage in 1 Corinthians 12, highlighting how important it was for us as a team to work together to share the Gospel and love the children.
Read MoreThis is my first year as an intern at Sonshine Day camp. I did not really know what to expect as I had heard that I will be stretched in my time in Kingston-Galloway. So before I had even begun I had decided early on to go in with full confidence and faith in God.
Read MoreIf I have learned anything from working with Toronto City Mission, it has been the importance of being intentional. During training we were taught that to get to know the kids at Kingston-Galloway, we would need to intentionally plan, pray, and put into practice the kinds of characteristics and attributes God commands us to display in His word.
Read MoreI felt confident applying for the Toronto City Mission (TCM) Summer Internship because I believed I could do well in it. When I first heard about TCM and read the job description, I thought it was a perfect fit for me due to my experience working with children. However, during the internship training, I realized my initial confidence was just arrogance.
Read MoreGod is faithful. This is exactly how I would describe my experience at Toronto City Mission’s Sonshine Day Camp. As the second half of camp commences, I have felt so much joy in serving the Kingston-Galloway community over the last seven months.
Read MoreI’m always surprised at how God is working in my life. I heard about this opportunity in passing last year, and by God's grace I ended up here this summer. I'm grateful for always viewing ministry as uplifting and purposeful.
Read MoreIt has been a whirlwind of a summer at Flemingdon Park. This summer has indeed been a huge learning experience for me. Coming into this, I was actually pretty scared to connect with the kids and figure out how to do ministry but God has shown me that a little bit of love can go a long way.
Read MoreIt has been a blessing serving as a summer intern at TCM this summer at the Kingston-Galloway location. This is my second year serving as a summer camp counsellor at TCM. I decided to return for a second year because I had so much fun interacting with the campers, and interns during my first year.
Read MoreEntering the world of internships is an experience full of anticipation, progress, and the unexpected. I encountered amazing moments of faith, transformative experiences with children, and glimpses of God's presence at work as I began my second year as an intern, responding to God's call to immerse myself further in urban ministry.
Read MoreI decided to return for the second time as a Summer Intern at Sonshine Day Camp, because of the relationships that I built in Flemingdon Park with the older bunch of students in my small group. Throughout last summer, I shared my love for worship music with them and had intentional conversations with them about the Gospel, and the lessons that we taught.
Read MoreI returned for a second year because I felt like my work at Flemingdon Park was not finished. I really connected with all of the children last year, connected with the community and was able to share the gospel with them. I also feel that by doing that I helped open their capacity for God’s love.
Read MoreToronto City Mission has helped me find my passion for being in the children's ministry, which led me to pursue a profession in teaching. I want to be able to guide young minds and encourage them in their walk with God while simultaneously strengthening mine.
Read MoreGoing into this time of camp truly feels different going into it a second time as I can focus less on the planning aspects of the internship and focus on building connections with the kids, while also building habits and working on useful skills for myself.
Read MoreThe foundation of my motivation for ministry is the Gospel and the Great Commission. I want to share the good news with whomever, and wherever God has placed me in life.
Read MoreEven my whole time in Canada is coming to an end. And that means I have to start to say goodbye to people which became pretty important to me (But I will not leave without saying how grateful and thankful I am for my time with TCM. It was such a pleasure and blessing to work and serve our God with TCM together.) Now that my time to leave is getting closer and closer, I´m getting more anxious about returning.
Read MoreThe theme of this year's summer camp is the Kingdom of God. During the preparation of my bible lesson for our kids, I studied different parables about the Kingdom of God. One that particularly stood out to me was the parable of the mustard seed. I love this parable because it reminded me once again that we are planting seeds in the hearts of the TCM children so that God can grow them in their faith.
